Malolos City (29 May) — The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Health (DOH) will lead the turn-over ceremonies of the PALIT-ILAW Program in Hospitals on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 3:00p.m. at the Santos General Hospital in Malolos City.
Palit-Ilaw Program, also known as “Adopt-A-Hospital” Project encourages establishments to replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps and use other forms of efficient lighting systems (EELs).
It is one of the activities under the Philippine Efficient Lighting Market Transformation Project (PELMATP) which seeks to promote the use of EEL to save electricity and reduce costs as well as mitigate climate change and further degradation of the environment.
Secretaries Angelo Reyes and Francisco Duque III of the DOE and DOH respectively are invited to join and lead the turn-over and switch-on ceremonies.
Mr. Kyo Naka, the deputy resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme, will also attend the said activity. (PIA-Bulacan)

CAMP Gen. Alejo Santos, Bulacan — Police captured the alleged leader of a notorious robbery-holdup and carnaping gang in Barangay Mabalas-balas, San Rafael, Bulacan Monday afternoon.
Bulacan acting police director Senior Supt. Allen Bantolo said Victor dela Cruz Santos, 36, did not resist when lawmen served the warrant for violation of PD 532 (Anti-highway robbery law) on him.

CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — Police anti-narcotics operatives arrested two suspected major shabu suppliers in a buy bust in Bgy. Wawa, Balagtas, Thursday night. The suspects were allegedly operating in Balagtas, Bocaue and Guiguinto towns.
Bulacan acting police director Sr. Supt. Allen Bantolo identified the suspects as Efren Fernandez and Henry Idanan, both residents of the barangay.
Bantolo said the Provincial Drug Enforcement Group of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office under Senior Insp. BALAGTAS, Bulacan – Officials from the Environmental Management Bureau, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the provincial government of Bulacan inspected Thursday the Ugong-Calumpang creek in Barangay Panginay, Balagtas after some fishpond owners complained of fish kills due to chemical waste contamination.
The team was headed by Vice Gov. Willy Sy Alvarado and Board Member Pat Laderas, chairman of the environment committee.
The fishpond owners led by Oscar Madlang-awa of the “Samahan ng mga Namamalaisdaan sa Panginay” said 120,000 kilos or 720,000 pieces of “tilapia” worth P6 million from 200 hectares of fishponds were poisoned by water coming from Inchem, a chemical waste treatment firm located on the boundaries of Guiguinto and Balagtas.
They said the fish kill occurred after typhoons “Cosme” and “Dindo” hit the Ugong-Calumpang creek. By: Erick Silverio

A 78-year-old man and his two sons were repeatedly stabbed dead in yet another carnage, this time in Meycauayan City in Bulacan province late Friday night.
Radio dzBB reported that robbery was being eyed as the likely motive for the crime. Authorities have taken into custody a man who allegedly helped the suspect escape.
The victims were initially identified as Eladio Peña, 78; and sons Renato, 48; and Luisito, 42, who were killed while asleep in their house in Ubihan village in Meycauayan.
Police are now tracking down the suspect, initially identified as Renato Arando, 42, who was suspected to be high on drugs when he killed the three.
Radio dzBB’s Allan Gatus reported that police have taken into custody one Hermino Alcanar, 52, who allegedly helped the suspect escape by lending him a motorized banca.
