Tension grips Daet capitol »

DAET, Camarines Norte – Supporters of Gov. Jesus “Atoy” Typoco continue their vigil at the capitol  after former Vice Gov. Eudardo “Egay” Tallado was reported to have assumed the post of governor after the Commission on Elections issued last week a resolution voiding Typoco’s victory in the May 2007 election.

Typoco’s legal team led by former Judge Jose D. Pajarillo, filed a motion for reconsideration with the Comelec protesting its resolution issued last April 30.

Pajarillo said the resolution was not issued by the Comelec en banc. Only presiding Commissioners Romeo A. Brawner and Moslemen I. Macarambon signed it.

He said the petition was filed on Sept. 17, 2007 by Tallado’s lawyers or 111 days after the proclamation of Typoco, which is outside the reglamentary period of filing the electoral protest. by Sonny Sales

The House committee on local government has approved a measure dividing Camarines Norte into two congressional districts. Camarines Norte has more than 500,000 population.

Liberal Party Rep. Liwayway Vinzons-Chato, who represents the province’s lone district, lauded the committee for approving her House Bill No. 2449 for plenary deliberations, saying Camarines Norte’s population is projected to increase to more than 600,000 by 2010.

“The population of Camarines Norte is too big to have only one representative in Congress,” Chato said.

Chato said the latest survey conducted by the National Statistics Office shows Camarines Norte’s population at 513,785

Chato said each city or province with a population of at least 250,000 is entitled to one congressional representation.                        Describing Camarines Norte as one of the most peaceful in the Bicol region, Chato attributed the rapid increase in the population of the province to the continuing influx of migrants from neighboring provinces and from as far as Visayas and Mindanao.

House committee approves additional district for Camarines Norte »

THE province of Camarines Norte will soon be divided into two congressional districts. This was after the House Committee on Local Government has approved a measure for the creation of an additional district in the said province.

Under House Bill 2449 of Rep. Liwayway Vinzons-Chato of the lone district of Camarines Norte, she said the early passage of the measure is very timely as the projected population count of Camarines Norte is expected to break 600,000 by the year 2010.

“The province is one of the most peaceful in the region. This explains the phenomenal growth in population brought about by heavy migration from all over the country. It has since become the center of gold mining in Bicol region and the home of the Formosa Pineapple in the country,” she said.

The lady lawmaker pointed out that the Province of Camarines Norte has a population of more than 500,000 inhabitants. She said that such number is “far too many to have only one representative in the House of Representatives.” by  Jomar Canlas
